When you’re kind of a big deal in sustainability, everyone knows who you are! Two textile alchemy goddesses meet for the first time and talk shop in this latest episode of Rags to Riches.
Jennifer Moore, now widely known as Re-Covergirl, made her name in the textile upcycling industry (or is it a counter-industry??), by filling a gap in the “mommy blog” online space, sharing her experiences trying to source used clothing for her young son. She found it wasn’t as intuitive as it had been to incorporate upcycled textiles into her own style as a young woman. Re-Covergirl struck a chord with other thrifty parents, carving out a niche for Jennifer as a sustainability icon in the process.
Over the years Jennifer has been a blogger, editor, and magazine contributor around issues of sustainable style. In 2018, Jennifer gave a Creative Mornings Talk on “Building Community around Sustainable Style.” She recently authored a book about the seasonal workers of Star Island (nicknamed Pelicans) that was featured on NH Chronicle.
Jennifer is now deeply connected with the pulse of the sustainability lifestyle within her community and beyond. She loves that people know her as an authority on textile upcycling and will reach out for advice and guidance if they have materials to pass on or a great idea to explore.
Grab a cup of coffee and get comfy with Crispina and Jenn as they talk about Re-Covergirl and everything that has unfolded from there. We’ll learn about PortSwap, the local clothing swap event that Jennifer organized in her hometown of Portsmouth, NH that is still going strong 10 years later! And about Project Upcycle, the regional sustainable fashion competition, now entering its fifth year, born from Jennifer’s ingenuity and drive to bring the joys of creative textile upcycling into mainstream consciousness.
Are you ready?
