Clare Bare is a sustainable lingerie brand based in New York and Los Angeles. Each piece is handmade using vintage and new sustainable materials by a small team, along with the help of local production houses and suppliers.

Owner and designer Clare Herron carefully chooses unique vintage fabrics and upcycles them into limited edition runs and one of a kind creations. Her mission with each piece is to create beautiful, inclusive upcycled work that makes her customers feel good – because that kind of art feels good to make!

Clare began selling her work on Etsy here and there when the platform was new and there wasn’t a lot of competition, and her work quickly gained popularity until she was able to stop working on other side projects, quit her day job, and focus on her business. Now, Clare Bare is a well-known brand that has an established presence in NYC and LA boutiques, as well as online via her website and social media!

Her popularity is both hard-earned and well-deserved...Most lingerie shoppers are familiar with the struggle to find comfortable and sexy pieces that fit their size and body proportions just right. Clare can and does create directly to her customers' measurements and unique needs for the perfect feel-good fit! Her commitment to using sustainable upcycled materials adds that extra layer of positive impact that has a ripple effect of good vibes for maker and customer alike.

In this episode, Clare and Crispina discuss the ins and outs of making a name for yourself and your brand, gently educating people about the legitimacy and desirability of upcycled clothing artwork, using Etsy as a sales platform versus an independent website, and wholesale versus boutique/retail selling.

You may recognize Clare as one of our featured 2023 Rags to Riches Textile Upcycling Summit presenters!
